Emancipation Day Celebration
1pm - 4pm


Historic re-enactments, storytelling, refreshments. Learn about the day that the Emancipation Proclamation was issued and the impact it had on the African American population in 1863.

The Newsome House Museum presents:

Dr. Martin Luther King Day Celebration
Noon - 2pm


Enjoy screenings of the film My Friend Martin at noon and 2 p.m. Celebration will also include an art contest for elementary students, with posters created by students on display from January 10 through January 30. Book signing, featuring poet, Nathan Richardson
5pm - 8pm


Nathan Richardson debuts his highly anticipated poetry collection, You Are The Subject. This "Valentine's Day" themed event will feature Mr. Richardson presenting work from his book. Books will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

February 16, 2008
Art & Soul
Noon - 3pm


African Art workshop for children ages 7-13. Young people in attendance will create either an African Mask or an African Instrument that they can take home. Free. Registration is required.

March 15, 2008
Precious Memories
Noon - 3pm


Scrap booking workshop. Registration $10 per person. Registration required.
